GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS:

PROTEINS- All animal proteins are acceptable. Those higher in fat and purine such as red meat, salmon, tuna, sardines, anchovies and organ meats are preferable. These foods help support he PARA system.

DAIRY – All dairy products are acceptable. The protein, fat and high calcium are excellent to help balance the PARA type.

GRAINS – All grains in the form of whole, natural breads, cereals and grains are good for the Para dominant. They are an excellent source of slow burning carbohydrate and tend to result in an acid ash, thus helping to acifify the usually alkaline PARA system.

VEGETABLES – When possible, the PARA type should restrict the intake of leafy green vegetables and concentrate more on the root vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, onions, turnips, beets, leeks and radishes and the non leafy green variety. Beans and legumes are also acceptable.

NUTS, SEEDS – Due to their protein and fat content, these foods are generally good for the PARA dominant.

FATS AND OILS – Fats and oils such as olive oil, canola oil, sesame, peanut oil for stir frying, and unsalted butter are recommended.

GENERAL RESTRICTIONS:

FRUITS – (especially citrus) and

LEAFY GREENS due to their high potassium content which will increase the rate of oxidation and increase the PARA strength. The PARA dominant can have northern fruits such as apples, pears, plums, peaches, grapes, cherries, and berries in moderation.

SUGAR – Generally, the PARA dominant does not handle sweets well. They are a poor source of energy for the PARA metabolizer. Acceptable sweeteners in small amounts are brown rice syrup, barley malt, natural maple, and black strap molasses.
